Our larger villas (2–6 bedrooms) come with your very own private butler (and even two butlers in our 6-bedroom combo!). And every villa has been handpicked for one thing first: location. Seminyak is busy, and staying walking distance to the beach, shops and cafes means less time in traffic and more time actually enjoying your holiday.

Today is Nyepi Day, a unique and sacred celebration for the Hindu community in Bali, Indonesia. Known as the Day of Silence, Nyepi marks the Balinese New Year according to the Saka Calendar. Unlike typical New Year festivities, Nyepi is a day of quiet introspection, simplicity, and spiritual renewal.

Nyepi is observed with complete silence and inactivity across the entire island. From 6:00am to 6:00pm the following day, the island essentially shuts down.

Here’s what you can expect today:

✈️🚗🚣NO TRAVEL: The airport is closed (except for emergencies), and roads are empty as all transportation is prohibited. Tourists must remain within their accommodations.

💻🧹🥘👨‍🍳NO WORK: Businesses, shops, restaurants, and even tourist attractions are closed.

🏝️🎶No ENTERTAINMENT or LEISURE: Activities such as watching television, listening to music, and engaging in loud conversations are discouraged. No Lights: At night, lights must be kept low or turned off entirely to maintain darkness and encourage reflection.

🔥NO FIRE: Lighting fires and cooking are minimised to maintain simplicity and purity.

Nyepi is meant to encourage self-reflection, meditation, and spiritual cleansing. Balinese Hindus use this time to evaluate their actions over the past year and set intentions for the year ahead. It’s a day dedicated to purifying the soul, reconnecting with nature, and finding inner peace.

Preparations & Celebrations Before Nyepi
🙏MELASTI CEREMONY: Held a few days before Nyepi, this ritual involves processions to the sea to cleanse sacred objects and purify the soul.

🙏OGOH-OGOH PARADE (Pengrupukan Night): On the eve of Nyepi, large, colorful, and often grotesque paper-mâché statues called Ogoh-Ogoh are paraded through the streets. The statues represent evil spirits which are later burned to drive away negativity and restore balance.

🙏 POST NYEPI (Ngembak Geni)
The day after Nyepi, known as Ngembak Geni, marks a fresh start. Families and friends seek forgiveness from one another, reaffirming social harmony and spiritual purity.

🏖️DO I BOOK A PRIVATE VILLA OR RESORT? 🏖️
I’m constantly seeing people on platforms asking whether they should book a villa or a resort for their next Bali family trip. Yes, I am a little biased on the subject as a villa owner, but I want to share my thoughts on both options based on my own experience and the feedback from our guests.

In my opinion, there are many reasons why I personally favour a villa stay over a resort stay, but for me, the ‘NUMBER ONE REASON’ is ‘HYGIENE’.

The increasing number of comments I see about people getting sick and blaming the food or water makes me want to highlight that it’s generally a viral gastro that is causing illness and not due to the consumption of a doddy dish or a gulp of water. The main place where these gastro bugs spread is in resorts due to all the shared facilities.

MY SECOND REASON:
The “NO NEED TO PACK A DAY BAG FOR THE POOL,” which I will explain further in the blog piece. I’d love you to have a read and I’d love to hear your opinions as well!

I’m constantly seeing people on platforms asking whether they should book a villa or a resort for their next Bali family trip. Yes, I am a little biased on the subject as a villa owner, but I want to share my thoughts on both options based on my own experience and the feedback from our guests.
